Landscaping at the CNoR Train Station

With restoration of the building complete, Athabasca Heritage Society will landscape the Canadian Northern Railway train station property in 2022. We hope to plant appropriate native plant species and will incorporate donations of plants from the local community. Aspects of permaculture will be worked into the plan, encouraging pollinators to visit the garden, but not the deer. Volunteers will paint the north side of train station spring 2022.

Society friends and members have said how important it is for them to see their own perennials included in the station garden as we create new community space. Donated tables and benches, similar to those on the riverfront, will be worked into the landscaping plan and make new places to rest and visit.
Creating a community space for everyone to enjoy is important. Imagining and realizing community gatherings such as theatre or live music on the station deck is something we look forward to with pleasure. We hope to see outdoor flea markets and other gatherings at the train station this summer.
